TikTok Is Removing the Friction From Platform Diversification

Your Meta campaigns can now move straight into TikTok Ads Manager. Here’s what advertisers need to know about TikTok’s latest feature.

TikTok has been making it progressively easier for advertisers to bring more of what they already have on Meta into its own ecosystem.

The first clear step was launching Meta Creative Asset Import, which allows advertisers to connect their Meta account and pull existing images and videos directly into TikTok’s Creative Library. Now TikTok is taking that idea further.

The platform is testing Meta Campaign Import, currently in alpha with eligible advertisers. The feature allows advertisers to connect their Meta account, and bring existing Meta campaign structures directly into TikTok Ads Manager. Advertisers can select the campaigns they want to import, review the resulting setup in TikTok, and finalize it before launch.

The feature itself is straightforward. What makes it interesting is the direction it points in.

For brands with mature Meta programs, expanding onto TikTok often means recreating campaign structures, adapting workflows and adding another layer of management before the test has even started. None of that is particularly difficult, but it adds friction.

That friction matters more than we sometimes acknowledge. When teams are managing dozens of campaigns across multiple platforms, the decision to test another channel is partly about whether the audience and opportunity are there, but it is also about how much additional work is required to get there.

Meta Campaign Import starts reducing that barrier. If an existing Meta campaign already reflects the right business objective, funnel stage and basic structure, advertisers can use it as the starting point rather than treating TikTok as an entirely separate build.

That is a relatively small workflow change, but it could have much larger implications for adoption. The easier it becomes to get a TikTok test live, the easier it becomes to actually diversify the media mix rather than just talk about it.

But Importing a Campaign Isn’t the Same as Importing a Strategy

Making it easier to replicate campaign structure across platforms does not mean Meta and TikTok should be approached identically.

The platforms have different user behaviors, creative environments, optimization systems and signals. A campaign structure that works well on Meta can give you a useful starting point, but it still needs to be reviewed through the lens of how TikTok actually works. That is especially true for creative, where simply moving assets across does not tell you whether they are right for the way people engage with content on the platform.

If a team saves time on rebuilding campaign architecture, I would put that time back into creative development and testing. That is where the platform-specific thinking still needs to happen: how quickly the message lands, what formats feel native, how much variation the platform needs and what audiences are actually responding to.

The risk with any feature that makes cross-platform execution easier is that efficiency starts to encourage replication. A setup that works on Meta gets carried over with minimal change, and the new platform never really gets the chance to behave like a new platform.

The better opportunity is to use that efficiency to get to the test faster, then spend more time adapting the parts of the strategy that should be different.

How We’d Approach It

For advertisers with established Meta programs that are considering TikTok, this is how we’d think about the opportunity:

  1. Use Meta campaigns as a starting framework, not a blueprint. If an existing campaign already reflects the right business objective, funnel stage and basic structure, importing it can remove unnecessary setup work. From there, the campaign should still be evaluated against TikTok-specific best practices before launch.
  2. Put the time saved back into creative. If teams spend less time recreating campaign architecture, that time should go toward one of the biggest determinants of success on TikTok: developing and testing platform-native creative.
  3. Use easier setup to make diversification easier to test. One of the biggest advantages may simply be reducing the cost of experimentation. When launching on another platform requires less operational lift, advertisers can test diversification without committing to an entirely new workflow from day one.
  4. Don’t confuse consistency with standardization. There is value in carrying a consistent business objective and measurement framework across platforms. There is less value in forcing every platform into an identical campaign structure. The goal should be consistency in what you’re trying to accomplish while allowing each platform to determine the best way to accomplish it.

The Bigger Platform Play

There is also a competitive story here. TikTok does not need advertisers with established Meta programs to abandon Meta. It needs to make adding TikTok alongside that existing investment easier.

That is an important distinction because Meta already has scale, mature infrastructure and years of accumulated campaign learnings behind it. Asking advertisers to rebuild their paid social programs around a new platform creates a much bigger barrier than giving them an easier way to extend what they already have.

And once the operational barrier gets lower, the decision increasingly comes down to performance. That’s exactly where a challenger platform like Tiktok wants the conversation to happen.

Bottom Line

Meta Campaign Import is still in alpha, so it is early. But alongside Meta Creative Asset Import, it shows a clear direction in how TikTok is thinking about advertiser adoption.

The platform is making it easier for advertisers with established Meta programs to get onto TikTok without rebuilding everything from scratch. That lowers the practical cost of diversification and gives teams a faster route into testing.

The opportunity is to use that efficiency well: get to the starting point faster, then put the time saved into the parts of the strategy that actually need to be specific to TikTok.
